Medical
Industry
For a medical application, our customer had been using a sheet
membrane fabricated from sheet silicone material that was
glued to chipboard to give it strength. The process was expensive,
but no supplier had been able to mold a thin-walled membrane
capable of holding a dimension within .0022 to .0032 inches.
When an engineer visited the Quadra-Tek™ site and saw a turkey-caller
membrane being molded for another customer, he asked us to
help in the development of the molded membrane. Working together,
we made a compression prototype that was successful in its
application. Although it was a difficult transition, we worked
with the toolmaker to perfect an eight-cavity compression
mold that achieved absolute uniformity - producing identical
shot weight each time.
Result: The project was so successful that Quadra-Tek™
had to build two eight-cavity molds to meet product demand.
